"it's not working!"

 our little lady peed in the potty! 

                                it happened almost two weeks ago now....and she has used the potty everyday since then :) :) :) 

                                                      

i noticed that she was getting irritated with her diapers - always wanting it off or changed...saying "poopy diaper mama."  while trying to take it off. so I finally asked her if she wanted to check the potty out. 

she had been showing zero interest in it and i wasn't gonna push it. but as soon as she gave me a sign she might be ready, i asked!... and she quickly said "yeah!" 

so I took her diaper off and we went to her little potty that was sitting in our bathroom. 

she peed almost immediately!

 oh goodness was i excited! i could hardly believe it.

 we had decided a long time ago to follow her lead and not try to force it but she had been showing such little interest i found myself occasionally thinking "what if she never wants to use the potty?!" 

yep. she's not even two and i was starting to worry that my child would never learn to use the toilet.

so when she was suddenly excited about trying the toilet and peed RIGHT AWAY, i was ecstatic. 

I think I even teared up. but that's not unusual for me these days. she's growing so fast. 

the next day she sat on the potty again and after just a few seconds of not peeing,

 she very concernedly looks down at her vagina and says, "not working mama...no working." 

oh it was so hard for me not to laugh. she is sweeter than words.

and then lo and behold it worked and she peed. 

which brought a giant grin from both of us. 

We don't give her any treats for going on the potty. 

it makes my heart so light to see how proud of herself she is

and we let her see that joy. 

she brings us so much joy -- no matter where she pees. 

i love that my life has brought me to this place that i am excited about someone peeing in the toilet :) 

Zoo!

a couple weekends ago we took scarlett to the zoo for the first time.

she loved it! 

i love the zoo and since before scar was born i have been so excited to take her. alex was so busy this summer studying and looking for a job that i was almost convinced that we were not going to be able to make it this year. but he surprised me last weekend and we went! it was a perfect 75 degree saturday. which made for a packed zoo. 

this was her the whole time. reaching for everything.

poor baby would get so frustrated she couldn't get up close and pet the animals!

this was the cutest thing...as soon as alex put her on his shoulders, she threw her arms in the air. so many fun things to see!

watching the fish was one of her favorites.

she's getting to be such a big girl.

she was so excited to finally be able to touch an animal! the children's zoo only had goats for the kids to pet but it made scar happy. although i felt bad for the goats as i'm sure they do not enjoy all the kiddos runnin around and hitting them. ha. but we helped scar be gentle.

her favorites were the fish {she will love the shedd aquarium!}, polar bears, bison and everything at children's zoo! oh! they did not have any elephants! bummer. although i guess, good for the elephants.

it was so fun she didn't want to leave. except she did because she was exhausted.

next summer we may just get a membership.

the day after laura's birthday we drove to iowa to visit the fam. den + patty (alex's dad and step mom) just started farming this year! they've got tons of veggies and fruits. all organic. it's amazing. and a ton of hardwork. 

scar loved papa wimms's hat! actually alex brought it home with us.

our camera battery died like two days after we got there aaaaand of course i forgot the charger, so i don't have as many pictures of that trip as i wanted. but we had fun on the farm :)

bubba bubba bubba

scarlett loves bath time. especially the bubbly part. we sing the bubble song a lot during bath time...which pretty much consists of me singing bubble bubble bubble a bunch and then POP! but scar loves it and she often sings with me...bubba bubba bubba... and of course lots of 'p' sounds for POP! seriously the sweetest thing ever.

i have so much fun with scarlett! 

her smile is contagious. i can't help but feel happy around her, she brings so much joy to my heart. i'm loving this age! she's learning and discovering new things all the time. except rolling over!

 the girl will not roll over. haha i think it's more funny than anything else. she'll get so close but then she's just kinna like.."eh no. don't feel like it". and that is fine with me--she will roll over when she wants to! 

she soo wants to get movin tho! i think she thinks she can crawl.
